The Story of Lord Ganesha’s Birth
Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva, created Ganesha from the dirt and dust of her body while her husband was away. She breathed life into the figure and asked him to guard the entrance of their home.
When Lord Shiva returned, Ganesha didn’t recognize him and stopped him from entering. Shiva, not knowing Ganesha was his son, beheaded him in a battle.
Parvati was devastated and demanded that Shiva bring their son back to life. Shiva sent his attendants to find the head of the first living being they encountered, which happened to be an elephant. They attached the elephant’s head to Ganesha’s body, bringing him back to life.
